LEGAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF BID
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
MIAMI, FLORIDA
REVERSE AUCTION BID NUMBER: 1426 -FR
Miami -Dade County Department of Procurement Management is requesting your partici-
pation our first upcoming Private Reverse Auction to be held using Sorcity E -Procurement
Application for the pricing portion of the acquisition.
The purpose of the E -Procurement is to establish a contract for the purchase of Porcelain Tiles,
Grout & Adhesive as for Miami -Dade County Fire Department in conjunction with the needs of
Corrections and Rehabilitation Department on an as needed when needed basis.
The concept of reverse auctions is becoming widely used in large and medium-sized organization,
including government entities. This is an on-line process that allows sellers to bid for an opportu-
nity to provide a service or commodity to the County. As the bidding by sellers progresses the price
typically will go down, as opposed to traditional auctions where the bidding by buyers will typical-
ly cause the price to go up.
Through the use of Sorcity.Com, sellers will be able to place their bids and observe the prices from
the competitors, but will not be able to see who the actual competitors are. This dimensions
ensures the confidentiality of the bidders and the price each is offering until all bidding is complete.
To download a copy of the bid and for vendor training, contact Tim Lupa at (972) 612-0003 or e-
mail at TimOSorcitv.Com.
Date of Auction: October 11, 2002
Time of Auction Event: 9:00 am — 2:00 pm (Eastern Time)
Commodity: Porcelain Tiles, Grout & Adhesive
This bid solicitation is subject to the "Cone of Silence" in accordance with County Ordinance No.

Irak podria tener efecto

empresas arroja dudas
sobre recuperacion
NUEVA YORK, (Bloomberg) --
La caida de los ingresos de em-
presas como Electronic Data
Systems Corp., McDonald's Corp.
y Oracle Corp. esta arrojando Ju-
das sobre una recuperacion de la
bolsa en Estados Unidos, opinan
algunos inversores.
versiones mundiales en State Stre-
et Global Advisors. "Aim hay una
nube sobre la recuperaci6n".
Por termino medio los analistas
preven un crecimiento de 9,7 por
ciento en las ganancias este tri-
mestre para las empresas del S&P
500, segun First Call. Asimismo
preven un incremento medio de
los ingresos de 2,4 por ciento en
estos tres meses respecto al mis-
mo perfodo del ano pasado. Dos
de cada cinco empresas que in-
tegran el S&P 500 anunciaron un
crecimiento de los ingresos duran-
te los dos primeros trimestres del
ano, segun datos de Bloomberg.
"Wall Street estima siempre un
mayor crecimiento de ganancias
que de ventas", dijo Brett Gallag-
her, gestor de Julius Baer Inves-
tment Management en Nueva
York. "Pero to cierto es que no
h,ay pruebas de que haya diferen-
cia entre los dos".
Relaci6n hist6rica
Desde 1949, los beneficios ban
representado aproximadamente
el 5,4 por, ciento de las ventas
para las empresas del S&P 500,
dijo Gallagher. La relaci6n entre
el crecimiento de beneficios y de
ingresos no ha variado a pesar
del cambio tecnol6gico, dijo.
Aunque los recortes de costes
han impulsado las ganancias a pe-
sar de la caida de los ingresos,
los ejecutivos no pueden recortar
gastos indefinidamente, dijo. Las
empresas de Estados Unidos eli-
minaron mas de 1 million de em-
pleos en 2001, la mayor cifra en
al menos 12 anos.
Gallagher recomienda comprar
empresas como Yum! Brands Inc.
y senal6 que esta evitando empresas
de semiconductores "que no estan
mostrando en to mas mfnimo un
crecimiento de los ingresos".
Yum, la operadora de las cade-
nas Pizza Hut, KFC y Taco Bell,
es una de las 196 empresas del
S&P 500 que aumentaron las ven-
tas durante los dos primeros tri-
mestres. Las acciones de estas
companfas han caido por termino
medio 12 por ciento, la mitad de
to que retrocedi6 elfndice de re-
ferencia. Yum subi6 14 por ciento
en to que va del ano.
Ganadores y perdedores
Big Lots Inc., comerciante mi-
norista, es la empresa mas ren-
table del S&P 500 este ano. La
companfa tuvo un crecimiento de
ingresos de 7 por ciento en el pri-
mer trimestre y de 13 por ciento
en el segundo. Las acciones su-
bieron 77 por ciento este ano.
Newmont Mining Corp. avanz6 47
por ciento y Ball Corp. 46 por ciento.
Ambas tambien mejoraron sus ven-
tas durante los dos primeros trimes-
tres y se encuentran entre las cinco
empresas de mejor desempeno este
ano en el fndice de referencia.
Electronic Data Systems, la se-
gunda empresa de servicios infor-
maticos del mundo, anunci6 que sus
ingresos podrfan caer 4 por ciento
en este trimestre, a $5.300 millones.
McDonald's, la mayor cadena de co-
mida rapida, baj6 16 por ciento en
los dos ultimos dfas despues de que
recort6las previsiones de beneficios
por ventas inferiores a to previsto
en Estados Unidos y Europa.
Delta probablemente

dice jefe ejecutivo
ATLANTA, Georgia, (Bloomberg)
— Delta Air Lines Inc. probablemen-
te eliminara mas empleos porque
el baj6n en los viajes aereos signi-
fica que la tercera aerolfnea esta-
dounidense en tamano tiene mas
personal que el necesario, dijo el
director general Fred Reid.
"Si tenemos otros excesos en cual-
quier grupo de empleados, y pienso
que es probable que los tengamos,
les ofreceremos programas volun-
tarios", dijo Reid a los periodistas
en una conferencia sobre alianzas
internacionales en Atlanta.
Delta tiene unos 11.000 emplea-
dos mens que antes de los ata-
ques del 11 de septiembre y la con-
secuente merma en la demanda
de viajes aereos que tuvo lugar
al tiempo que la economfa de Es-
tados Unidos se desaceleraba. La
companfa pudo eliminar todas las
plazas mediante programas vo-
luntarios, excepto las de los pilo-
tos, por obligaciones contractua-
les en ese caso, dijo Reid.
La aerolfnea con sede central en
Atlanta tuvo una perdida de $583 mi-
llones en el primer semestre del
ano. Reid dijo que la firma buscara
mas formas de mejorar la produc-
tividad laboral porque es importan-
te que riga tratando de reducir los
costos en esta epoca de perdidas y
de ventas menguadas.
Las acciones de Delta bajaron
$1,46 a $12,78 a las 13:22 en las
operaciones compuestas del mer-
cado de valores de Nueva York
luego de llegar a $12,77, el precio
mas reducido en veinte anos. las
acciones de otras aerolfneas baja-
