Dear Commissioner Sanchez:
The American Cancer Society is pleased to ask for your support in our MAKING STRIDES
AGAINST BREAST CANCER walk. On Saturday, October 12, 2002, over 4000 concerned South
Floridians will lace up their shoes and meet at Bayfront Park in beautiful Downtown Miami for
what is sure to be a memorable and historic event_
This year, 12,000 Florida women will hear the devastating news that they have breast cancer. Of
that number, 2,900 mothers, wives, sisters, friends, and loved ones will lose their battle with this
disease. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a 3.5 -mile walk, which provides a meaningful
opportunity for family, friends, students, and colleagues to show their support for all those
affected by this life changing illness.
We are asking for your support in helping us attain the necessary permission with the City
Commission for placement of street banners along Biscayne Blvd. and Brickell Avenue. l
understand that there is a Commission meeting on September 11th. We would certainly
appreciate you bringing this before the Commission so we may attain approval. Already
the City of Miami is a sponsor of our event through the Special Events Department.
We deeply appreciate your consideration of this request as we strive to enhance our programs
and services for cancer patients throughout South Florida. We hope you will help us create
visibility and exposure that will in turn lead to awareness. If you should have any questions
please contact me at (305) 594-4363 ext. 222 or via email at fllizoCilcancer.oro.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
