Sincerely, ._. cc: Ms. Elvi GallaskjW—-Aionso, Agenda Office 7 02- 535 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable Mayor & Members of the City Commission City Manager BACKGROUND: DATE : APR 3 0 2a FILE : SUBJECT: City Commission Agenda Meeting of May 9, 2002 REFERENCES: 6th Annual Arthur McDuffie Candlelight Vigil ENCLOSURES: Mr. Leroy Jones, Spokesperson for Brothers of the Same Mind, has requested a personal appearance before the City Commission to request financial assistance and support for City services required for 6th Annual Arthur McDuffie Candlelight Vigil. The City of Miami has waived fees for this event for the past four years, and Miami Police Department has staffed this event with on -duty personnel. Last year, the City Commission directed the City Manager to work with organizers to facilitate this event without charging said group for City services. The Miami Police Department contacted Mr. Jones and was advised that, in addition to police services, they would also be requesting use of the Parks Department show mobile. Based on the information provided, the following reflects the estimated costs for this year's event: City Services Waivable Fees Police Department: Personnel/Security -0- (On-Duty Personnel) Permit $ 100.00 Fire -Rescue Department: Permit (Assembly) $ 55.00 Parks Department: Labor $ 136.72 Equipment Rental $ 85.20 RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends approval of fee waivers and Parks Department labor costs.
