FOR LEGAL SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE CITY OF MIAMI IN CONNECTION WITH ILLEGALLY PLACED BILLBOARDS AND THE CASE OF NATIONAL ADVERTISING CO. VS. CITY OF MIAMI, IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT, CASE NO. 01-3039 CIV -KING, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $100,000, PLUS COSTS AS APPROVED BY THE CITY ATTORNEY; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE SELF-INSURANCE AND INSURANCE TRUST FUND, ACCOUNT CODE NO. 515001.624401.6.661, FOR SAID SERVICES. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The continued engagement of the law firm of Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P. for legal services provided to the City of Miami in connection with illegally placed billboards and the case of National Advertising Co. vs. City of Miami, in the United States District Court, Case No. 01-3039 Civ -King, is authorized, in an amount not to exceed $100,000, plus costs as approved by the City Attorney, with funds allocated from the Self -Insurance and Insurance Trust Fund, Account Code No. 515001.624401.6.661, for said services. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission. Page 2 of 2 41-3- 7r4 CITY OF MIAMI CITY ATTORNEY'S OFFII MEMO TO: Mayor and Members of �Pei FROM: Alejandro Vilarello, CA -14 DATE: June 26, 2003 40' RE: City Commission M g —July 17, 2003 Continued engagement of the law firm of Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P. for legal services provided to the City of Miami in connection with illegally placed billboards and the companion cases of National Advertising Co. vs. City of Miami, in the United States District Court, Case No. 01-3039 CIV - KING, and National Advertising Co. vs. City of Miami in Florida District Court, Case No. 02-22255 (CA 21) (J-03-613) The attached proposed Resolution seeks authorization for the continued engagement of the law firm ofHogan & Hartson, L.L.P., for legal services provided to the City of Miami in connection with illegally placed billboards and the related cases of National Advertising Co. vs. City of Miami, in the United States District Court, Case No. 01-3039 CIV -KING, and National Advertising Co. vs. City of Miami in Florida District Court, Case No. 02-22255 (CA 21) in the amount of $100,000, plus costs as approved by the City Attorney. Hogan & Hartson, L.L.P. is handling this litigation and several related City Code matters. Resolution No. 02-67, adopted January 24, 2002, approved the allocation of $100,000, Resolution No. 02-735, adopted June 27, 2002, approved the allocation of $100,000, Resolution No. 02-1215, adopted November 19, 2002, approved the allocation of $100,000, Resolution No. 03-139, adopted February 13, 2003 approved the allocation of $100,000, and Resolution No. 03-347, adopted April 10, 2003, approved the allocation of $125,539. The approval of this Resolution will bring the total amount to $625,539 for this case. Funds for legal fees will be allocated from the City of Miami Self -Insurance and Insurance Trust Fund, Index Code No. 515001.624401.6.661.
