ENCLOSURES:
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission terminate the contract, as described in
Resolution No. 02-449, adopted April 25, 2002, for the procurement of police service dogs and
supplemental training, for the Department of Police from Metro -Dade K-9 Services, a Hispanic/Dade
County vendor, and Police Service Dogs, Inc., a Female/Dade County vendor, due to the Police
Department's desire to re -structure the contract requirements to better satisfy their needs.
BACKGROUND
On April 25, 2002, the City Commission awarded, under Resolution No. 02-449, Metro Dade K-9
Services and Police Service Dogs, Inc., the contract for police service dogs and supplemental training, on
a spot market, as needed contract basis, pursuant to Bid No. 01-02-006R. The contract is for an initial
period of two (2) years with the option to renew for two (2) additional one (1) year periods.
During the first year of the contract; however, the Police Department has expressed their dissatisfaction
with certain conditions as originally set forth under this contract. They are currently working in
conjunction with the Purchasing Department to create new specifications and requirements that will best
fit the needs of the K-9 Unit of the Police Department. Upon the approval of the termination of the
award of the contract, a new solicitation will be issued for the provision of police service dogs and any
supplemental training as needed.
