HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-03-0626J-03-418 05/14/03 RESOLUTION N0. 03- 626 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 02-449, IN ITS ENTIRETY, AND THE BID AWARDED TO METRO-DADE K-9 GUARD DOG SERVICES AND POLICE SERVICE DOGS, INC., PURSUANT TO SAID RESOLUTION, FOR THE PROVISION OF POLICE SERVICE DOGS AND SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 02-449, adopted April 25, 2002, awarded the bid to Metro -Dade K-9 Guard Dog Services and Police Service Dogs, Inc. for the provision of police service dogs and supplemental training, for the Department of Police, on a spot market, as -needed contract basis for a two-year period, with the option to renew for two additional one-year period; and WHEREAS, due to the Department of Police's dissatisfaction with certain conditions as set forth under the terms of the contract, the Department wishes to re -structure the contract requirements to better satisfy its needs; and 'CITY �UO1� METMG OF MAY ? 2 nq, 3 Resolution No. 0- 626 WHEREAS, upon the rescission of the contract, a new bid will be issued for the provision of police service dogs and any required supplemental training; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Resolution No. 02-449 in its entirety, and the bid awarded to Metro -Dade K-9 Guard Dog Service and Police Service Dogs, Inc. for the provision of police service dogs and supplemental training for the Department of Police, are rescinded. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.!' 1� If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. BACKGROUND On April 25, 2002, the City Commission awarded, under Resolution No. 02-449, Metro Dade K-9 Services and Police Service Dogs, Inc., the contract for police service dogs and supplemental training, on a spot market, as needed contract basis, pursuant to Bid No. 01-02-006R. The contract is for an initial period of two (2) years with the option to renew for two (2) additional one (1) year periods. During the first year of the contract; however, the Police Department has expressed their dissatisfaction with certain conditions as originally set forth under this contract. They are currently working in conjunction with the Purchasing Department to create new specifications and requirements that will best fit the needs of the K-9 Unit of the Police Department. Upon the approval of the termination of the award of the contract, a new solicitation will be issued for the provision of police service dogs and any supplemental training as needed.
