A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION,
WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING USE OF THE
ATTACHED LOGO IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
OFFICIAL SEAL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI ON
STATIONARY FOR COMMUNICATIONS RELATED TO THE
"MIAMI 2003 FREE TRADE AREA OF THE AMERICAS
MINISTERIAL AND AMERICAS BUSINESS FORUM."
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. Use of the attached logo in conjunction with
the official Seal of the City of Miami on stationary for
communications related to the "Miami 2003 Free Trade Area of the
Americas Ministerial and Americas Business Forum" is authorized.
Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor."
�i If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become
effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was
passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it
shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by
the City Commission.

BUSINESS LEADERS OF 34 NATIONS TO PARTICIPATE IN
MIAMI'S Vill AMERICAS BUSINESS FORUM

Business leaders of 34 countries will converge In Miami on Nov. 17 -19th, 2003, to participate in
the Vffl America's Business Forum. With the support of Fforida Governor Jeb Bush, the mayors
and commissioners of Miami -Dade County, the cities of Miami, Miami Beach and Coral Gables
the event wits take place at the Hyatt Regency Hami -.lames L. Knight Center in downtown
Miami.
In addition to the business forum, the meeting of trade ministers from the United States,
Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean will also take place in Miami Nov_ 19-21, 2003 to
dfsmms negotiations for a proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas.( F AA). Negotlations
toward establishing a Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement among the 34 democratic
nations of ttie Westem Hemisphere have formally been underway since 1998. Such an
agreement would eliminate tariffs and create common trade and investment rules for these
noon$.
The FTAA's objectives are as follows:
• Preservation and strengthening of the democratic community of the Americas.
• Promotion of well-being through economic integration and free trade
• Eradication of poverty and discrimination in the hemisphere.
• Guarantee of sustainable development and preservation of the environment for future
generations.
"We are thrilled to be the host of these great events," said Ambassador Chuck Cobb, Chairman
of the Miami V111 Americas Business Forum. "Miami is the ideal location for the permanent
secretariat. it is a culturafty diverse international community driven significantly by global trends
and serves as an international business center for the western hemisphere "

forwarders in the United States," said Ambassador Luis Lauredo, Executive Director of the
Miami Vill Americas Business Forum. 'Cur geographical location and IT infrastructure has
made Miami the high-tech fink between the United States, Central, South America, the

The Metropolitan Miami area has long been considered the gateway to the Americas_ With a
successfuf Vill Americas Business Forum and Ministerial Meeting, Niiami could very well
become the permanent secretariat to the FTAA.
If negotiations continue as scheduled, the FTAA will be established by the year 2005 at the
latest. if completed, the Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement would cover about 800
milffon people and about $13 tn"tflon in production of goods and services making it the largest
trading block in the world.
