HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-03-0383J-03-398 4/10/03 RESOLUTION NO. 03— 383 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT, IN THE TOTAL ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF $200,000, FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES UNDER THE TITLE XX SOCIAL SERVICES ACT THROUGH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION, TO PROVIDE CHILD DAY CARE SERVICES TO CHILDREN FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES FOR THE PERIOD OF JULY 1, 2002 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2003; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENT(S), IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, TO ACCEPT THE GRANT AND TO IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM. WHEREAS, pursuant to the Social Services Act, Title XX, the United States Department of Health and Human Services ("USDHH") provides funding for child day care services to low-income families so that they may obtain employment or acquire training; and WHEREAS, for the twenty-third year, USDHH has provided Title XX funding to Miami -Dade County for child day care services with no matching funds required; and CITY CGXMSSION VnMTMG OF APP 1 k1_' ?pn3 Resoiuiion No. 03- 383 WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County remits the Title XX funding to the Department of Parks and Recreation ("Department") to administer its Child Day Care Program; and WHEREAS, the Department anticipates that it shall provide childcare services to maximum one hundred and twelve (112) children, forty (40) preschoolers, forty-seven (47) toddlers and twelve (12) infants; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorizedil to accept a grant, in the estimated amount of $200,000, from the United States Department of Health and Human Services ("USDHH"), under the Title XX Social Services Act through Miami -Dade County, to fund the Department of Parks and Recreation, for the provision of child day care services ("Program") to low-income working families, for the period of July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2003. �i The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. The City Manager is further authorizedl� to execute the necessary document(s), in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, to accept the Title XX Social Service Grant and to implement said program. If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
