HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-03-0317RESOLUTION NO. 03,317 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION APPOINTING CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS AS MEMBERS OF THE ORANGE BOWL ADVISORY BOARD FOR TERMS AS DESIGNATED HEREIN. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following individuals are hereby appointed as members of the Orange Bowl Advisory Board, each to serve a term expiring January 24, 2004, or until the nominating Commissioner leaves office, whichever occurs first: APPOINTEES: Angel Gonzalez (Commissioner/Chairperson) Max Cruz NOMINATED BY: Commission At -Large Commissioner Tomas Regalado Section 2. The residency requirements contained in Section 53-124 of the Code of the City of Miami, as amended, are hereby waived with regard to the appointment of Max Cruz as a member of the Orange Bowl Advisory Board. Thompson City Clerk REFERENCES March 27, 2003 Agenda ENCLOSURES: Resolution, List of Members The Orange Bowl Advisory Board was created to serve in an advisory capacity and make recommendations in writing to the City Commission as they relate to the Orange Bowl which shall include, but not be limited to: (1) Identification of essential capital improvements to modernize and restore the Orange Bowl as a first class facility; (2) Identification of funding sources to finance said capital improvements; (3) Identification of new and enthusiastic promotional strategies to market and attract diverse events to the Orange Bowl; (4) Recommendations for the solicitation of corporate sponsorship of the Orange Bowl facility and its components (skyboxes, etc.); and (5) Presentation of reports of the Board's findings, as directed by the City Commission. Members shall be qualified electors of the City of Miami. The Commission may, by a four- fifths vote, waive the requirement of a member being an elector, and/or the attendance requirement per the City Code. Seven appointments are needed at this time for members whose terms have expired: • The Commission At -Large has one appointment for Commissioner/Chairperson seat currently vacant because Commissioner Sanchez resigned. • Vice Chairman Teele has one nomination for seat currently held by Dr. Laurinus Pierre, who requires a waiver of the elector requirement, if reappointed. • Commissioner Regalado has one nomination for seat currently held by Max Cruz who does not comply with the election requirement. • Chairman Winton has two nominations for seats currently held by: 1. Al Dotson, Jr. resigned 2. Larry Coker (requires a waiver of the elector requirement) • Mayor Diaz has two appointments for seat currently held by: 1. Steven Marin 2. Douglas Greist, who is not a City elector and works for Miami -Dade County. Pursuant to City Code Sec. 2-884(e), employees of Miami -Dade County or any municipality therein other than a City of Miami employees, shall not serve on or be appointed to any Board of the City of Miami, unless the City Commission waives this restriction by a four-fifths affirmative vote of its membership and the employee is a resident of the City of Miami. 03- 317 For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this memorandum, we are requesting that the Agenda Office place this issue on the March 27, 2003 Commission agenda. This matter was deferred from the January 9, 2003 Commission meeting.
