Funds will be allocated from the "Miami -Dade County EMS Grant Award (FY `2001-02)", Project No. 104014, Account Code No. 280774.6.840, subject to availability of funds. BACKGROUND The Department of Fire -Rescue received a grant from the Miami -Dade County (as funded by the Florida Department of Health) to continue its efforts towards improving and expanding pre- hospital emergency medical services. In compliance with the provisions of said grant, the Fire - Rescue Department has a need to secure a contract with a provider, on an as needed contract basis for the procurement of cardio pulmonary resuscitators (thumpers). The requested equipment is carried on all Fire -Rescue emergency medical vehicles and is used by emergency response personnel. Cardio pulmonary resuscitators (thumpers) are necessary to administer external chest compression's and ventilations' to patients suffering from cardiac arrest caused by a medical condition and/or trauma related injuries. This device is a vital emergency medical tool that requires replacement on a normal routine basis. This proposed purchase will not only enhance the capabilities of the Fire -Rescue Emergency Rescue personnel, but will allow the emergency personnel to respond to any emergencies with all the equipment necessary to ensure safety to all of our citizens and visitors of the City of Miami. The Department of Fire -Rescue has analyzed the bids received pursuant to Bid No. 02-03-018. Michigan Instruments, Inc., submitted the lowest most responsible and responsive Bid, and is therefore recommended for award.
