BACKGROUND: At its meeting of October 10, 2002, the City Commission continued its allocation of available funds for public services. At that time, in its preparation the Agenda item relating to this matter, the Administration recommended that the City Commission increase the approved allocation to the DeHostos Senior Center in the amount of $36,650. However, DeHostos subsequently indicated in writing that it had made an organizational decision to focus its service activities on its main site in Wynwood and declined the recommended allocation which would have provided meals service at the Claude Pepper Tower site. The City Commission directed the Administration to identify a vendor to ensure that meals continue to be provided at the Claude Pepper site without interruption and that the funds declined by DeHostos Senior Center be set aside for that purpose. Catholic Charities of Greater Miami, Inc. has continued to provide meals service at the Claude Pepper site and it is recommended that the $36,650 set aside for meals at Claude Pepper be allocated to this Agency. It is recommended that the City Commission adopt the proposed resolution that allocates $36,650 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to Catholic Charities of Greater Miami, Inc. to provide elderly services at Claude Pepper Tower and further authorizes the City Manager to enter into agreement with said agency for said purpose, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney.
