HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-12406J-03-756 09/09/03 ORDINANCE NO. 12406 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE FUND ENTITLED "CORAL GABLES HOSPITAL/TENET FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTION" AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE OPERATION OF SAME, IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,500, CONSISTING OF A GRANT FROM CORAL GABLES HOSPITAL/TENET SOUTH FLORIDA HEALTHSYSTEM AND TENET FOUNDATION; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE GRANT AWARD AND TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY; CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION, A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $1,500, from the Coral Gables Hospital/Tenet South Florida HealthSystem ("Tenet") and Tenet Foundation ("Foundation") to be used by the Department of Fire -Rescue to purchase emergency medical services equipment, as set forth in the grant award; and WHEREAS, since 1998, the Foundation has awarded grants to organizations for a variety of purposes; and WHEREAS, the Foundation directs the majority of its funding to help meet unmet or underserved healthcare needs in the communities in which Tenet operates its hospitals and other facilities; and 12406 WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Manager to accept the grant and to establish a Special Revenue Fund for the appropriation of said grant award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Fund is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLED: Coral Gables Hospital/Tenet Foundation Contribution (FY 2002-2003) RESOURCES: Coral Gables Hospital/Tenet South Florida HealthSystem and Tenet Foundation $1,500 APPROPRIATIONS: $1,500 Section 3. The City Manager is authorizedil to accept the grant from the Foundation and to execute the necessary document(s), in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances insofar as they are inconsistent or in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are repealed. 1� The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected. Section 6. Said grant will be used by the Department of Fire -Rescue for the purchase of medical equipment. In addition, the Ordinance establishes a Special Revenue Fund entitled "Coral Gables Hospital/Tenet Foundation Contribution" and appropriating said funds for the operation of same in the amount of $1,500. BACKGROUND The City of Miami Department of Fire -Rescue has been fortunate in the past to be a recipient of the Tenet Healthcare Foundation Grant Award. This year the Department of Fire -Rescue has been awarded a grant in the amount of $1,500 from Coral Gables Hospital/Tenet South Florida HealthSystem and Tenet Foundation. This grant will be used by the Department of Fire -Rescue for the purchase of EMS equipment. Since 1998, the Tenet Healthcare Foundation has awarded grants to worthy organizations for a variety of charitable purposes. The Foundation directs the majority of its funding to help meet unmet or underserved health care needs in the communities in which Tenet operate its hospitals and other facilities. Coral Gables Hospital is one of the 116 hospitals of Tenet HealthSystem that strives not only to provide excellent health care, but also to support organizations such as the City of Miami, which furthers health and wellness for the South Florida community. It is now appropriate to accept said grant, establish a special revenue fund, and appropriate the said grant award therein for fiscal year 2003-2004.
