Discussion for use of bond proceeds for Ballet Gamonet in Downtown Miami. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Frank Balzebre Chief of Staff Office of Commissioner Winton Ph'305-250-5333 Fax:305-579-3334 a DI j S' ED Proposal for the funding of Ballet Gamonet Resident Ballet Company of Miami OBJECTIVE of the Company: In the last decade, South Florida has established itself as an international cultural hub. Ballet Gamonet was formed as part of this vibrant artistic community to contribute to its notable artistic landscape and stands poised to make significant contributions to the dance community and its local audience through its repertoire. This repertoire embraces company's artistic philosophy of looking to the future with great regard to our past. Ballet Gamonet was incorporated as Florida Corporation on December 6th, 2001 and received its 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status. Its Board has approved the following structure and programming: • The Company will present the complete repertoire of its Artistic Director, Jimmy Gamonet De Los Heros, an established artist with an existing identifiable repertoire that has been recognized and lauded both locally and on the national and international arts arenas. By housing Mr. Gamonet, Ballet Gamonet benefits from the artist's extensive repertoire and a solid ticket audience built over a period of 16 years in the same community. • The new Miami dance company will also develop new works of talented and innovative, national and international choreographers. These new works will be commissioned specifically for Ballet Gamonet and will help build its repertoire. Spotlighting choreographic talent from different regions will provide a vehicle for cultural exchange and a venue from which to comment on the art form as it relates to the respective cultures. South Florida audiences will have the unique opportunity of sampling a myriad of styles, images and perspectives through one similar international, multicultural art form, thus farther contributing to the growing presence South Florida holds in the national and international dance community • In order to continue reinforcing South Florida's social and cultural ties to Latin America, Ballet Gamonet Choreographer's Workshop will focus on the development and exposure of Latin American choreographers. The workshop is an innovative initiative to showcase artists whose works demonstrate an analytical approach to physical thematic structure and use of music. Workshop participants will be chosen based on several criteria, to include structure, entertainment value, as well as use of corporal and auditory elements. • Ballet Gamonet will develop its own Dance Conservatory, an important component of any dance company. A company advances its style through its conservatory. Schooling will help the dancer interpret the repertoire more accurately, and thus establish the distinct identity of the company. As such, the company will define the conservatory's style, its curriculum and the approach the dancers will have to the academic vocabulary. Moreover, the conservatory provides potential dancers the technique that needs to be taught and established at a young age, acclimating them to the company's particular stylistic needs. The conservatory will give us the o ortunity to develop the talent that will feed the company. ._) B MME D INTO THE "UBLIC RECORD FOR . r TEM t97.AON 7-a-3 Ballet Gamonet will work with Miami -Dade County Public Schools, youth organizations, senior centers, and community-based non-profit groups to further the community's appreciation of the art form and build new audiences.
