Stinson Superintendent of Schools Merrett R. Stierheim This letter is being submitted in request of your assistance to eliminate a financial obstacle that is preventing the construction of a hard surface playground area and physical education storage building for the students, staff and community of Shadowlawn Elementary School. This school has been identified for the above sited construction along with a Music Suite since 1995. However, due to reasons that are somewhat unclear to this administrator, these projects have been delayed. Recently, I was notified that the hard courts and storage building were approved for construction to begin. Unfortunately, closure of a portion of northwest 50d street is required in order to provide safety to those students and staff who will be crossing the street to attend physical education classes and other activities during school hours. The City of Miami Police Department has approved daily temporary closure, but with the stipulation of a $100.00 dollar monthly fee. Your support is needed in obtaining a waiver of this fee. As you know, Shadowlawn is a small school in a low -socio-economic community and therefore has no means to access funds that will maintain such a monthly payment. Your assistance is critical and will greatly contribute to the programmatic needs of our students. Please contact me if there is any additional information and/or clarifications that may be provided.
