Joe Arriola REFERENCES: Motion No. 03-30, passed on
Chief Administrator/City Manager January 9, 2003
ENCLOSURES:
Pursuant to Motion No. 03-30 of the January 9, 2003 City Commission meeting, directing the
Administration to identify Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for possible
infrastructure and parking improvements around the Southwest Social Services Program (SSSP)
facility, located at 25 Tamiami Boulevard, please be advised that staff has met with
representatives of the agency regarding this issue.
Southwest Social Services has requested permission to use a portion of Flagami Park, which is
adjacent to the SSSP facility, for the purpose of developing nine (9) new parking spaces to help
alleviate their need for more parking and address the concerns of residents in the area.
Subsequent to a meeting with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Asset
Management and the Department of Community Development, SSSP was scheduled to present
their proposal for consideration to the Parks Advisory Board at the February 12, 2003 Board
Meeting. The February Board meeting was cancelled due to a lack of quorum and SSSP has
been rescheduled to present their proposal to the Board on March 12, 2003, which is the next
scheduled meeting of the Parks Advisory Board. Due to this unexpected delay, the
Administration will be in a better position to present this matter to the City Commission at the
March 27, 2003 Commission Meeting, after the rescheduled presentation.
