As you can see, this project is somewhat ambitious. especially since I reside out of
state. For my part however. I pledge to do what I have to do in order to erect this
monument in my father's honor by the sports field the City of :Miami so Rracieusly
dedicated to him.
I have entrusted Frank Fuentes. a contractor and friend of our family, and `.Ir. C—c-nzalc•
Naranjo. a retired, professional baseball player who knew my father well. to carry out
the negotiations and arrangements there: Both gentlemen are residents of '\Iiami.
Florida.
My hope is that all will be in order and the monument completed by early Summer.
3003.
I hope to hear from you in the near future: Your assistance and guidance in this effort
would be much appreciated.
v ly yours" I

Dear Mavor Diaz:
I am writing to you regarding the consummation of a forgotten resolution of the City of
Miami. In the resolution, a baseball -softball field is dedicated to Emilio Arechaederra.
My father, Emilio Arechaederra was well known and highly respected in Miami and the
surrounding communities. He had been a sports journalist and promoter in Havana,
Cuba before seeking exile in the United States. He arrived in Miami in 1961. Soon after.
he initiated the "Liga de Softball de Cuba Libra".
In September, 1991, when he retired, the City Commission of Miami named the sports
field at Shenandoah Park in his honor. A copy of the resolution is attached to this letter.
On a recent trip to Miami, I asked to be taken to this field. Later I spoke with some of
my father's friends including Mr. Juan Pascual. They advised me to write to you with a
proposal for a small monument to be erected somewhere near the field named for m%
father. The monument I am proposing would be located just behind home plate facing
SW 22nd Avenue (Please see accompanying drafts).
I trust you will view this effort in a favorable manner. The monument will honor an
activist who initiated and promoted amateur sports for exiled Cubans. My father helped
to provide a sense of home and community for the uprooted Cubans who left their
homes in despair and settled in South Florida. —
Throu;hout his life, my father continued working with the various leagues he formed
and organized. He published their prosress and accomplishments from his "Cortos
Deportivos" at Diario Las Americas.
My family and I will cover all costs associated with the planning and construction of the -
monument.
