Pursuant to CRA Board request at the December 8, 2003 Board of Directors meeting, I was
instructed to report back to the CRA Board, at the next meeting, on the construction phasing
plan for the renovation work for Jackson Soul Food Restaurant with particular emphasis on how
long employees may be without work.
Attached is phasing plan for the construction and a brief presentation will be given by H.J. Ross
Associates to the CRA Board on January 26, 2004.

Phasing Notes:
• In general the restaurant should remain open during the 9-month construction period with

some minor exceptions as follows:

PHASE 2 — RESTROOM TRANSITION
This will require closing the restaurant over a one -weekend period to demolish the
existing restrooms and temporarily open the new restrooms. The weekend closure period
is approximate and is contingent upon inspections occurring over the weekend.
PHASE 4 — KITCHEN TRANSITION
This will require closing the restaurant for approximately on week to demolish the
existing kitchen exhaust hood and close up the roof area where the kitchen exhaust now
exits. There will also be transition of the electrical power, plumbing and kitchen systems
during this period. In addition, the owner can utilize this time to relocate supplies into
the new storage areas. The one -week closure period is approximate and is contingent
upon obtaining timely inspections.

• BEGIN CONSTRUCTION OF NEW KITCHEN AT THE WEST SIDE OF THE
EXISTING BUILDING.
• BUILD A TEMPORARY FIRE -RATED EXTENSION TO THE EXHAUST HOOD AT
THE KITCHEN WALL.
