Teele, Jr. Date: September 29, 2003 File: And Members of the CRA Board Subject: Recommendation to Approve Pocket Resolution/Maintenance for Phase I of 9 h Street Mall From: Frank K. Rollason References: Executive Director Enclosures: RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended -;that the Board of Directors for the Southeast Overtown/Park West CRA approve the attached Resolution authorizing the Executive Director to enter into a change order to the existing contract with Community Asphalt Corporation for the 3rd Avenue Extension of the 9th Street Pedestrian Mall=Phase III for maintenance of the 9th Street Mall (Phase I) elements in an amount not to exceed $30,000.00. JUSTIFICATION: As Community Asphalt nears completion of Phase III of the 3rd Avenue Extension component (NW 2nd Avenue to 3rd Avenue) of the 9th Street Pedestrian Mall, it becomes abundantly clear that time has taken its toll on the original phase which runs from NW 2nd Avenue east to the Metrorail and then north and south to follow the rail pattern. The brick pavers are in dire need of pressure cleaning and resealing and the lamp fixtures and trash receptacles are in need of repainting. The current General Contractor, on -site (Community Asphalt Corporation) has given us an estimated cost of $21,198.00 (although their count on light poles and trash receptacles may be too low) to complete this work with the end result being that all elements between NW 3rd Avenue and the Metrorail will look "new" rather than have the newest element looking "new" and the eastern element adjacent to the Lyric Theater looking bleak and drab.
