HomeMy WebLinkAboutSEOPW-CRA-R-02-0098SEOPW/CRA ITEM 5 RESOLUTION NO. 0 2 98 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ("CRA") AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO SUPPORT THE MARKETING ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE "HAITIAN ROOTS AND CULTURE FESTIVAL," MORE PARTICULARLY THE ANNUAL LITTLE HAITI ART EXHIBIT COMPONENT, PROVIDED SUCH ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE WITHIN THE REDEVELOPMENT AREAS; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO REIMBURSE THE COSTS FOR RENTAL OF THE VENUE, SECURITY, SET-UP AND DISPLAY PREPARATION, ASSOCIATED WITH BIG TIME STUDIOS ICE PALACE, WHICH IS LOCATED WITHIN THE OMNI REDEVELOPMENT AREA AT 59 NORTH WEST 14TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $25,000, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS FROM OMNI TAX INCREMENT FUNDS, ACCOUNT NUMBER 686001.590320. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and finding contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Board of Directors authorizes the Executive Director to support the marketing activities EUMCRA 02- W ...0• associated with the "Haitian Roots and Culture Festival," more particularly the Annual Little Haiti Art Exhibit component, provided such activities take place within the redevelopment areas. Section 3. The Executive Director is further authorized to reimburse the costs for rental of the venue, security, set-up and display preparation, associated with Big Time Studios Ice Palace, which is located within the Omni Redevelopment Area at 59 North West 14th Street, Miami, Florida, in an amount not to exceed $25,000, subject to the availability of funds from Omni Tax Increment Funds, account number 686001.590320. Lewis VC) Executive Director, C INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM May 30, 2002 DATE: FILEITEM 5 May 30, 2002 SUBJECT Haitian Roots and Culture Arts Festival REFERENCES: ENCLO40Y&$ation, supporting documents RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the CRA Board of Directors approve the attached resolution authorizing the Executive Director to support the marketing activities associated with the Haitian Roots and Culture Festival, more particularly the annual "Little Haiti" Art Exhibit component, provided such activities take place within the redevelopment areas; further authorizing the Executive Director to reimburse the costs of the venue, security, set-up and display preparation associated with Big Time Studios "Ice Palace" located within the Omni Redevelopment Area at 59 NW 14'h Street in an amount not to exceed $25,000 subject to the availability of funds from Omni TIF, account number 686001.590320. BACKGROUND The Roots and Culture Art Exhibit opened on Sunday, May 19, 2002 and runs through Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Big Time Studios' "Ice Palace" located within the Omni Redevelopment Area at 59 NW 10 Street. The exhibit featured artworks from the private collections of business leaders and public officials in the community and showcased the artwork of seven Haitian artists flown from Haiti for the eight (8) day event, as well as local Haitian artists throughout Miami -Dade and Broward counties. The success of the promotion of the Art Exhibit has even resulted in Academy winner, Denzel Washington visiting the Haitian Art exhibit.
