WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ("CRA")
AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO
PROVIDE TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO
REAL MEN CHARITIES, INC., IN AN AMOUNT NOT
TO EXCEED $18,000, FOR LEASE OF SOUND
EQUIPMENT, THE PROVISION OF TICKETS AND
TRANSPORTATION SERVICES FOR AREA YOUTHS AND
MEMBERS OF FAITH -BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO
ENABLE THEM TO ATTEND THE 13' ANNUAL,
FATHER'S DAY REAL MEN COOK CHARITY EVENT TO
BE HELD AT FLORIDA MEMORIAL COLLEGE ON JUNE
16, 2002, FROM 3:00 'PM TO 6:00 PM; AND
FURTHER DIRECTING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO
PROVIDE ADMNISTRATIVE SUPPORT TO AREA
BUSINESSES VOLUNTEERING FOR THE CHARITY
EVENT AND TO FILE A REPORT AT THE BOARD OF
DIRECTORS' JUNE MEETING ON ALL EXPENDITURES
AND ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE CHARITY EVENT.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the
Preamble to this Resolution are incorporated herein as if fully
set forth in this Section.

Section 2. The Board of Directors authorizes the
Executive Director to provide technical and financial support to
Real Men Cook Charities, Inc., in an amount not to exceed
$18,000, for lease of sound equipment, the provision of tickets
and transportation services for area youths and members of
faith -based organizations to enable them to attend The 13th
Annual Father's Day Real Men Cook Charity Event to be held at
Florida Memorial College on June 16, 2002, from 3:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m.
Section 3. The Executive Director is directed to
provide administrative support to area businesses volunteering
for the charity event and to file a report at the Board of
Directors' June Meeting on all expenditures and activities
related to the charity event.

Father's Day Real Men Cook Charity Event to be held at Florida Memorial College on June 16, 2002
from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm; and further, providing administrative support to area businesses volunteering
for the Charity Event, and instructing the Executive Director to file a report at the June Board Meeting
on all expenditures and activities related to the Charity Event.
Section 3. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon its adoption.

RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the CRA Board of Directors approve the attached resolution
authorizing the CRA Executive Director to provide technical and financial support to Real Men
Charities, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $18,000 for providing transportation of area youth and faith -
based organizations to the 13t' Annual Father's Day Real Men Cook Charity Event to be held at
Florida Memorial College on June 16, 2002 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm; and further, providing
administrative support to area businesses volunteering for the Charity Event, and instructing the
Executive Director to file a report at the June Board Meeting on all expenditures and activities related
to the Charity Event.
BACKGROUND
The CRA recognizes the need to support activities that have a positive impact on the residents,
particularly families. The Real Men Cook for Charity has been in existence for 13 years and has
had several corporate sponsors such as Home Depot, Ford and Coca-Cola.

There are a number of different opportunities for The City of Miami to sponsor and participate in this
year's Real Men Cook for Charity event. Listed below is a `Wish list" of needed resources:
* Sponsorship of airfare for national celebrity participation. National celebrities that have
expressed 'interest in coming to South Florida to volunteer their time include:
- Dorien Wilson (UPN's The Parkers)
- Rodney Van Johnson (NBC's daytime soap opera, Passions)
- Will Downing (Motown Recording Artist)
- Victor Williams (CBS's King of Queens & UPN's The Jamie Fox Show)
See the attached sheets that list's last year's celebrity and VIP participants.
* City Officials (Mayor, City Manager, City Commissioner, etc.) to participate as vohmteer cooks.
* Sponsor/assist with television advertisement to help promote ticket sales.
Provide a Proclamation from The City of Miami
* Assist with sponsoring equipment needed to facilitate the event:
- Tents - Grills - Staging - Sound Equipment - Tables - Chairs - Chaffing Dishes
* Help to secure local talent to volunteer as entertainment for the event.
* Assist with ticket sales. There several options here:
- To sponsor blocks of tickets. Can be donated to residents, charity, employees, etc.
- The City could act as another ticket outlet
*Assist with getting volunteers to participate on:
- Steering Committee
- Event Day Committee (set-up & clean-up)

A NATIONAL URBAN FATHER'S DAY EVENT FOR CHARITY
MIAMI, Florida (April, 2002) - State Farm Insurance, Lawry's® Foods and Coca
Cola lead the national sponsorship partnerships with REAL MEN COOK®, the
nation's premier Father's Day cooking event for charity. For Lawry's® the
relationship spans twelve years. Now in its 13th year, REAL MEN COOK is
widely recognized as the nation's largest and longest running urban Fathers
Day charity event. On June 16, 2002, REAL MEN COOK will be a ten city
culinary celebration designed to honor men who care for their families,
themselves and their communities.
Each year, with a mission to build families and provide the opportunity for non-
profits to raise money from event ticket sales, REAL MEN COOK® mobilizes
hundreds of men across the country to participate as volunteer cooks on
Fathers Day. The 2002 presentation takes place for the third consecutive year
in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New
York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
Locally, REAL MEN COOK® will benefit Florida Memorial College, a historically
Black college and the birthplace of the Negro National Anthem, ILife Every
Voice and Sing': This fun filled, family day that celebrates Real Men who
demonstrate exemplary dedication to their families, community and the general
uplifting of the positive contributions that African -American males make, will
take place on Sunday, June 16, 2002 from 3:00pm — 6:00pm at Florida
Memorial College. The location is 15800 N.W. 42"d Avenue, Miami, Florida.
Third year volunteer cook, General Sales Manager for WHAT HOT 105.1fm,
Kervin Clenance says, "I firmly believe in uplifting the Black male image and do
it to help dispel the myth that Black men don't care about their families or
community." WHAT HOT 105.1fm has been a proud sponsor of this event for
the past 3 years. This year's event is also sponsored by The Herald, Save -A -
Cat Food Stores and Air Jamaica.
Last year's list of celebrity participates includes, Malik Yoba (New York

event manager Evelyn Dixon.

community,' Dixon said.
