HomeMy WebLinkAboutOMNI-CRA-R-02-0039OMNI/CRA ITEM 9B RESOLUTION NO. 0 2 - 39 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE OMNI COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ("CRA") ACKNOWLEDGING RECEIPT AND ACCEPTANCE FOR INVENTORY AND FINANCIAL RECORDS THE ARTWORKS OF ERNEST KING, PROVIDED PURSUANT TO THE CRA "ARTIST IN RESIDENCE" PILOT PROGRAM AND ARTIST IN RESIDENT AGREEMENT DATED FEBRUARY 2001; AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO ACCEPT AND ACQUIRE ARTWORK FROM EACH OF THE SEVEN HAITIAN ARTISTS FLOWN DIRECTLY FROM HAITI FOR THE ANNUAL "LITTLE HAITI ART EXHIBIT," WHICH WILL BE SHOWCASED WITHIN THE OMNI REDEVELOPMENT AREA AT THE ICE PALACE, LOCATED AT 59 NORTH WEST 14TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO ALLOCATE FOR THIS PURPOSE AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $10,000, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS FROM SEOPW TAX INCREMENT FUNDS, ACCOUNT NUMBER 689001.590108. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE OMNI COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Board of Directors acknowledges receipt and acceptance for inventory and financial records the artworks 01 TI/CRA 02- 39J of Ernest King, provided pursuant to the CRA "Artist In Residence" Pilot Program and Artist In Resident Agreement dated February 2001. Section 3. The Executive Director is authorized to accept and acquire artwork from each of the seven Haitian artists flown directly from Haiti for the annual "Little Haiti Art Exhibit," which will be showcased within the Omni Redevelopment Area at the Ice Palace, located at 59 North West 14th Street, Miami, Florida. Section 4. The Executive Director is further authorized to allocate for this purpose an amount not to exceed $10,000, subject to the availability of funds from SEOPW Tax Increment Funds, account number 689001.550108. Lewis ENCLOSURES: Acting Executive Dire r, CRA Resolution, supporting documents RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the CRA Board of Directors approve the attached resolution acknowledging and accepting for inventory and financial records, the artworks of CRA "Artist in Residence", Ernest King resulting from the pilot program and Artist in Resident Agreement dated February 2001, and further authorizing the Executive Director to acquire artwork from each of the seven (7) Haitian Artists flown directly from Haiti for the Annual "Little Haiti" Art Exhibit showcased within the Omni Redevelopment Area, at the Ice Palace located at 59 NW 14'h Street, in an amount not to exceed $10,000 subject to the availability of SEOPW TIF funds account number 689001.550108. BACKGROUND The CRA's Artist in Residence Program became effective since February 2001. The resulting agreement specified that the Artist would create work for the CRA, the CRA has never formally accepted artwork of the Resident Artist, Mr. Ernest King; who has masterfully captured the essence of many historic buildings throughout Overtown. In the same light, the CRA is interested in creating a unique art/museum district that it may showcase acquired artworks from the various cultural groups residing within the Redevelopment areas.
