Dear Mr. Gonzalez:
Our children are the future of Miami -Dade County and I believe we must do everything to ensure
that youth are encouraged to make healthy choices as they mature into young adults. For this reason,

dedication to youth. Victory Day held November 11, 2000 was a high energy event, which
combined many of the resources in the community with entertainment that appealed to
young people.
Those who attended were able to receive information about medical, social, and
educational resources within the community. You and your staff were able to involve a
wide range of agencies and organizations. It is especially noteworthy that they
participated on a Saturday which was also a holiday. Your understanding of and empathy

Dear Mr. Gonzalez:
On behalf of the Abstinence Education Program for the Miami -Dade County Health
Department, I would like to share with you our delight in being a part of last year's
Victory For Youth. With thousands of youth in attendance for an event which focused on
their well-being and making positive choices in life, we were pleased to have hundreds of
youth take the time to visit our booth and sign an "Individual Contract" to be abstinent.
To be exact, 204 contracts were signed and a pledge was made to be abstinent. Others
were able to temporarily feel what it is like to be pregnant with our Empathy Belly
Pregnancy Simulator or care for a Baby Think It Over Doll.
We hope to continue our involvement with you and other agencies seeking to provide our
youth with the information needed to make positive life and career choices. The
feedback we have received from youth in attendance at last year's Victory For Youth has
been excellent, exciting, and energizing.
Please continue to be a positive influence in the lives of our youth and preparing them for
a brighter future.

Dear Mr. Gonzaiez:
The Department of Children & Families, District 11 would like to thank you for the opportunity to
participate in Victory Day 2000 "Youth Power Day," which took place at the Dade County Fair Expo
Center in Miami on November 11`h. As a proud sponsor of Victory Day, we would also like to extend our
deepest congratulations to you for a job well done and for carrying out such a successful event.
Representatives from our Family Safety, Adult Care, and Economic Self -Sufficiency divisions were
pleased to have the opportunity to interact and provide youths with important information and resources to
help them make positive, informed, and healthy lifestyle choices. Victory Day 2000 gave us an excellent
opportunity to further demonstrate our commitment to the youth of our community who often struggle to
meet the challenges presented by adolescence and their transition into adulthood.
We were delighted that so many youngsters and parents came to our tables and benefited from the
information they received on family safety, domestic violence and child abuse, teen dating violence,
economic assistance, child care, and other services. Approximately 15 families were interested in and
received information on Foster Care and related services.
Your leadership is applauded, and look forward to our working together in future events to improve the
lives of children, youths and families of Miami -Dade County.
Sincerely,
Charles M. Auslander

Dear Mr. Gonzalez,
I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate you on the success of Victory 2000. My
volunteers and I enjoyed the day. We had many children stop by our booth to gather
information about Kristi House. We were able to spread the word about Kristi House and to
educate the children about the issue of child abuse. Victory 2000 enabled us to meet other
agencies. It was a great day for all. I am glad that we had the chance to participate in

BUREAU OF ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY,
Victory Day 2000
Victory Day 2000 held on November 11,
2000, at the Miami -Dade County Youth
Fairgrounds was true to its name —a great
victory for all who participated in this
meaningful event.
This first-time venture was organized by
Rolando Gonzalez to celebrate the youth
of Miami -Dade County. It brought to-
gether representatives from other parts of
the state, from Miami -Dade County and
its municipalities, from nonprofit agen-
cies, and from faith -based organiza-
tions —all working together to address key
issues that affect our youth today, such as
substance abuse, physical and mental
abuse, pregnancy, runaways, gangs, etc.
Members of the Family, Career, and Com-
munity Leaders of America group were
the only career/technical student organi-
zation that was invited to assist with this
event. Over 375 M-DCPS students vol-
unteered along with their parents and ad-
visors, creating a total of approximately
35,000 youths and adults who attended.
Janet Brown from the Office of School
Reform was one of these participants,
doing what she does best —coordinating
a fashion show.
Special thanks are owed to our Superin-
tendent, Roger C. Cuevas, and to our
Mayor, Alex Penelas, for proclaiming this
"The Year of the Child." And in the
course of extending "kudos," let us not
forget all those teachers, students, and or-
ganizations who helped to make Victory
Day so "victorious."

Mr. Roland Gonzalez
4563 S.W. 71 st Avenue

Dear Mr. Gonzalez:
Our children are the future of Miami -Dade County and I
believe we must do everything to ensure
that youth are encouraged to make healthy choices as
they mature into young adults. For this reason,
it is my pleasure to write in support of Victory Day 2001
and I am committed to supporting this effort as a
community event that encourages prevention while linking
youth and their families with needed services.
Victory Da 2000 was extremely successful event
Because oFthe coordinated numerous state.
local, faith -based and private agencies, more than
15,000 youth and their families enjoyed the
activities and entertainment last year while receiving
valuable health, education and social service
information and assistance.
Victory Day is an event with a meaningful purpose that
results in true victories for the many
participants. Drugs, alcohol, pregnancy, gangs, and
many other influences are challenges that the youth of our
community face on a daily basis. Our youth need to
know that their voices are being heard, and that their
concerns have solutions.
I am truly encouraged by the work that is being done to
prepare for Victory Day 2001 scheduled to take place on
November 10, 2001 at the Miami -Dade County Fair and
Expo Center. I encourage private and ublic agency
directors to continue providing the leadership necessary to
support Victory Day 2001.
In closing, I believe that Victory Day 2001 will provide
public and private agencies alike with the opportunity to
encourage the success of our youth.
Sincerely,
Alex Penelas

John O. Agwunobi, M.D. M.B.A.
Secretary
I want to congratulate you on the success of Victory Day 2001. I have learned that more than
9,000 children and their families were able to enjoy of the performances and presentations, but
more importantly, they were able to empower themselves with information on services available
in our community and learn about the importance of prevention and maintaining healthy
lifestyles.
I have also received very positive feedback from Miami -Dade County Health Department
program managers and staff who were present at the event. They encourage us to have more
community events where we can truly reach our community members and feel that coordinated
::aforts that bring together multiple disciplines and agencies provide comprehensive information
to families and youth on health and social services.
Several important successes for the Miami -Dade County Health Department were Teen
Pregnancy Prevention and SWAT/Tobacco Prevention membership campaign. The youth
eagerly participated in the r activities , and genuinely interacted with program participants
throughout, the day,,, Likewise, we were able to reach more than 1,200 families to provide
valuable KidCare,health insurance information.
I am encouraged that Victory Day is a true partnership involving numerous health and human
service, agencies that protect and improve the health and safety of the youth and families of our
community.

Mayor Penelas:
Amazing accomplishments are achieved when we all come together as one to protect our children, we
must not forget that our youth are "The future of Miami -Dade County". Victory Day 2001 was an
extremely successful event; the success was because agencies like Miami -bade County together with the
numerous other states, local, faith -based and private agencies stood together to serve and entertained
over 15,000 youth and their families. Through this major effort, these youth received valuable health,
education and social services information and in some instances direct assistance.
Our gratitude for a true victory goes to Mr. Roland Gonzalez, Chairman of Victory Youth Inc. Please
joint mean congratulating Mr. Gonzalez for his outstanding vision, dedication, commitment and his
willingness to continue to lead our troubled youth through a positive path. A path that I am sure you
will agree with me will require our commitment to continue this worthwhile partnership/venture. Please
be assured that the Department of Juvenile Justice is committed to continue assisting Mr. Roland
Gonzalez as Victory of Youth strives to expand services beyond the Victory Day once a year event.
The success of our youth depend on our ability to work together especially during this hard times, when
our community is loosing funding for primary services such as education, health and Home Detention
just to mention some. Our youth, need to know that their voices are being heard, and that this
community is willing to ensure that services will be available. Respectfully I am requesting your support
as we continue to build a strong community.

Dear Mr. Gonzalez:
OF JUVENILE JUSTICE
Thank you in advance for your commitment, dedication and support displayed during "Victory Day" held
November 10, 2001. The outcome of this event clearly demonstrated and validated one of the most empowering
slogan we know "It Takes A Village To Raise A Child" after all the youth of this community are our future. We
want to extend our gratitude to you for inviting us to partner with Victories for Youth and to be among the many
governmental and community based agencies that participated in this worthwhile Community Partnership Event.
Once again, for the second year Victories for Youth, Inc. spearhead perhaps one of the largest youth events in the
state. Victory Day was a major success. On behalf of the Department of Juvenile Justice staff, and myself we
want to thank you for inviting us to participate in this great event. The exposure before and after the event
provided us with many opportunities to educate, share and expand the Department's mission and vision. We
have participated in several Radio Talk and TV. Shows. Our staff had excellent experiences in managing the
booth; we had a considerable number of participant parents and youth who were interested in learning more
about our agency and the services we provide. The staff that provided security during the event, stated that they
had a great time and felt very proud serving and given back to the community.
We look forward to again participate during Victory Day 2002. Just to reiterate, Victory Day was a Major
Success. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact meat (305) 493-6000.

Victory Day 2001
4563 S.W. 71 Avenue

Dear Rolando & Isabel:
Blessings to you, your family, and staff, in the name of our mutual Friend and Savioi,
Jesus Christ.
I just want to take this time to express my thanks and appreciation to you and your staff for
organizing such an event as was Victory Day 2001. The success of the event was not only
evident on Saturday, November 10"', 2001, but in time I am sure we will all hear the testimonies
of young kids that were impacted on that day. Some may say it was the music, or a word from a
speaker, others will have gotten on the right path in getting good information about a college
degree. Still others will admit that they found out about a particular career or profession. One
may say they heard about Jesus, another may have learned on how to say "no!" to drugs. These
things go beyond a one day event.
The event for TIU was very constructive. I personally met various adults and their youth, and
spoke with them about a college education. As you may know, our university offers adult
completion degree programs, so we got the parents "hooked" concerning a college degree for
them. Our staff members even brought back some inquiries and applications. It was a good dad.
I thank you for facilitating the booth for TIU.
More good, positive, and clean activities as Victory Day are needed throughout the South Florida
area to help make a difference in our youth. Thank you for doing your share.

Isabel and Roly,
Thank you for allowing us to participate in Youth Day 2001. We met many extraordinary people
that really want to make a difference in the lives Of our youth. t was impressed at the number of
people that did not know about the "Safe Haven" program and the interest that they showed. We
had young people from high schools asking us questions about the program. These high school
students mentioned that teenage pregnancy is a real problem in their school and that they would
like more people to be made aware of this program.
As a result of our participation in "Youth Day 2001". we interviewed with Small Talk Radio 7,90
the Monday after the activity_ The response to this interview was overwhelming. They have
called us back to do a full hour on Thursday November 29`h because of the response it received.
Please count us in for next year.
May God continue to bless you in your quest to help our young people.

supportir% our children and showing them that there are many alternatives for their
