A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK WEST COMMUNITY
REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY AUTHORIZING THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SPONSORSHIP COMMITMENT TO
"ONE LOVE, ONE SOUL, ONE COMMUNITY"EVENTS TO
BE HELD ON JUNE 24-25, 2001 INCLUDING A CONCERT AT
THE GUSMAN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS FOR
OVERTOWN FAMILIES, YOUTH AND PARISHIONERS
THROUGH FAITH BASED ORGANZIATIONS IN AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $20,000.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami approved and adopted the Southeast Overtown/Park West
Community Redevelopment Plan Pursuant to Redevelopment Plan Pursuant to Resolution Nos. 82-
755 and 85-1247 (the "Redevelopment Plan"); and
WHEREAS, the CRA is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities
and projects in the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Area (the "Redevelopment
Area") established pursuant to the Redevelopment Plan; and
WHEREAS, the CRA desires to enter into a grant agreement with Jubilate, Inc. (a non-
profit 501 (C) (3) Miami based organization) to programmatically administer the "One Love, One
Community" events through faith based organizations, to approximately 350 to 400 families, in
Overtown to be held on June 24-25, 2001 including a concert at the Gusman Center for the
Performing Arts and an interactive youth workshop with Jubilate and Bobby McFerrin (schedule
permitting) for an amount not to exceed $20,000.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to the Resolution are
incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The CRA is hereby authorized to enter into a grant agreement with
Jubilate, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $20,000 subject to the availability of General funds from
account number 689004.5500226.690.
Section 3. This resolution shall be effective upon its adoption.

RECOMMENDATION
It is .respectfully requested that the Board adopt the attached resolution authorizing the CRA to
enter into a grant agreement with Jubilate, Inc. (a non-profit 501 C (3) Miami based
organization) to programmatically administer the "One Love, One Soul, One Community" events
to be held on June 24-25, 2001, through faith based organizations for approximately 350 to 400
Overtown family members, youth and parishioners including a concert at the Gusman Center for
the Performing Arts in downtown Miami and an interactive youth workshop with Jubilate and
Bobby McFerrin (schedule permitting) for an amount not to exceed $25,000.
BACKGROUND
A resolution authorizing the CRA to enter into a grant agreement with Jubilate, Inc. to administer
and coordinate arts events for the participation of family members, youth and parishioners in
Overtown for a two day period not to exceed $25,000.
The concert on June 24, 2001 will be performed by the premier multi -cultural, multi -racial
performing arts organization, JUBILATE and with legendary singer and performer Bobby
McFerrin. Jubilate arts organization consisting of the internationally acclaimed JUBILATE Vocal
Ensemble and Jubilate Symphony Orchestra is one of three minority -based orchestras in the
country. Jubilate .. is premiering the Jubilate Youth Chamber Orchestra and Jubilate Youth
Ensemble comprised of gifted scholarship students from Jubilate Arts Preparatory Academy.
Aside from winning ten Grammy Awards, recording a #1 pop single (Don't Worry Be Happy),
McFerrin is a nationally acclaimed conductor of classical music, has conducted most of America's
greatest orchestras, and will join and conduct the Jubilate Youth Chamber Orchestra for a special
presentation.
The Gospel Truth Newspaper will work directly with churches in Overtown in order to
coordinate the distribution of tickets through its network of churches. The primary focus will be
the youth departments and church choirs with the intent of providing residents and families with a
special evening of cultural entertainment. Because of the established relationships the Gospel
Truth newspaper has in the church community, it is uniquely positioned to market this event to
the community.
