With the assistance of companies such as yours, in 1992 SJCDC built thirty-five (35) units of affordable rental housing. These units consist of two and three bedrooms, with two baths, complete with new kitchen appliances. These were the first new rental apartments built in this area in forty-five years. We are currently working with residents through our home ownership program in order to transition them to our proposed for sale project. SJCDC is the recent recipient of fourteen (14) scattered site multi -fairly buildings located throughout Overtown. The sites, which were donated to SJCDC, contain in aggregate, 108 multi -family rental units. SJCDC has determined that the majority of the buildings should be demolished and cleared for the new construction of affordable home ownership or multi -family rental units. Phase 1 of this development plan consists of fifteen (15) new townhomes located right in the heart of Overtown. This site will be beautifully landscaped and consist of eleven (11) three bedrooms/two bath units and four (4) two bedrooms/one half baths. The floor area will range from 1064 - 1180 square feet, complete with nice kitchen amenities and covered parking. Phase 11 will consist of the design and development of the Lyric Village project scheduled to break ground in late 2002. This project will be located near the Overtown area between NW 8' and 10" ® Streets and N W 2nd Avenue and 1" Court. When completed, this development will consist of ninety- six (96) units of affordable and market rate units. Additionally, SJCDC has facilitated the improvement/rehabilitation of twenty (20) commercial structures in Overtown thus far. Since 1994, over one hundred fifty (150) businesses have received managerial and technical assistance, loan packaging, access to capital, and business counseling form SJCDC_ SJCDC has taken the leadership role in the development of the Overtown Merchants Alliance.
