Community Redevelopment Association

Dear Mr. Parekh:
The State of Florida Safety and Career Day Committee is planning its Third Annual State of Florida
Safety and Career Day. This event is the result of individuals contemplating the future of the youth
of the community. The Committee is composed of government and private agency representatives.
They volunteer their time and efforts to provide the youth with career path options and safety
information, which we believe, will have a positive impact on the community.
This year's event will take place on May 11. 2001, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the State of
Florida Regional Service Center located at 401 NW 2nd Avenue, in Miami. Several State, County,
• and City officials have been invited to attend and participate in this event. In coordination with
Miami -Dade County Public Schools, approximately 1,700 middle and senior high school students
will be armed with information to make more informed safety and career path decisions. The event
is kicked off with a parade through downtown Miami culminating at the Regional Service Center
where a variety of activities and presenters are available for the students to interact with.
The continued success of this event is a direct result of the support and participation of our many
sponsors. Many of them provide large equipment and vehicles for display. (Enclosed is a copy of
last year's program and a pictorial for your review.) The students may enter and tour the vehicles.
We have been fortunate enough to have of local officials and businesspersons, such as,
Commissioner Winton (who will be our Grand Marshall this year), Commissioner Willie Gort, Ms.
Patty Allen and Reverend Starling, give their full support and cooperation to this in devour.
We have no independent source of funding, and, therefore, we depend on voluntary contributions.
For the past two years the use of the parking lot located on the corner of NW 6`h Street and 2nd
Avenue has been donated for this day. We use it to land the helicopters that are brought in for the
students to tour. Currently, Travel Ways bus line occupies this lot. We are requesting your
assistance in having Travel Ways move their buses for just this one day, so that we may continue to
