CURRENT POSITION
Research Coordinator, Center for Learning Technologies in Urban Schools
• Responsible for development of the multi -methodological and multi -leveled research design
and ethnographic data collection plan for the Center for Learning Technologies in Urban
Schools. In this capacity, she is responsible for managing and reporting on the ethnographic
and videographic data collection efforts of the Center ethnography team and of advanced
doctoral students and researchers in 31 Chicago area elementary schools and for coordination
of the Center's data collection efforts in the Detroit Public Schools. She is also responsible
for writing the annual Center ethnography report which describes research findings to date.
Filemaker Pro, Excel, PowerPoint, and MSWord'98 are the key tools used in data
management and presentation.
Responsible for proposal writing for the extension of Center initiatives in urban schools.
Responsible for the development of a technology supported ecology -based service learning
curriculum. This curriculum is being collaboratively developed with 7-9`h grade Chicago
Public School teachers and a Northwestern University graduate student. The final product
will serve as a prototype curriculum for Chicago Public Schools Office of Service Learning
and Magnet Programs as an example of service learning curriculum which is integrated into
existing school curriculum. The documentation of the process of collaborative curriculum

development through the "work circle process" will serve as a protoype for the development
of within -school curriculum development collaboratives.
Responsible for development and management of a Center Community Advisory Board
which will support and refine the Center's efforts to support the reform, curricula and
technology infrastructure needs of Center schools and their local communities

The Parents As Teachers First Project
Evaluation of a Chicago Public Schools early childhood program initiative which trains
low income parents to present pre -literacy activities to three to five year old children in
the children's home environments.

Volunteer Program Effectiveness
Pilot evaluation of the Working In the Schools volunteer program. Teachers and
volunteers in two WITS schools were surveyed regarding their perceptions of program
effectiveness.

An examination of 5,000 local school council members' involvement in school -site

Full -Day Kindergarten Program
Evaluation of the Des Plaines Township Full -Day Kindergarten Program. An
examination of kindergarten teachers beliefs and practices regarding the effectiveness of a
pilot full -day kindergarten program. Parents of kindergarten students were also surveyed.
