SEOPW/CRA R-00-53 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY ("CRA") TO REQUEST THAT THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") NOT DEMOLISH STRUCTURES WITHIN THE REDEVELOPMENT AREA HAVING HISTORIC, CULTURAL AND/OR ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE OR WHOSE DESTRUCTION MIGHT ADVERSELY AFFECT THE REDEVELOPMENT PLAN WITHOUT THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE CRA. WHEREAS, the City of Miami approved and adopted the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan pursuant to Resolution Nos. 82-755 and 85-1247 (the "Redevelopment Plan"); and WHEREAS, the CRA is responsible for carrying out community redevelopment activities and projects in the Southeast Overtown/Park West Redevelopment Area (the "Redevelopment Area") established pursuant to the Redevelopment Plan; and WHEREAS, the CRA desires that the City not demolish structures within the Redevelopment Area having historic, cultural and/or architectural significance or whose destruction might adversely affect the Redevelopment Plan without the prior approval of the CRA. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The CRA is hereby authorized to request that, prior to demolishing any structures within the Redevelopment Area, the City provide the CRA with a list of structures within the Redevelopment Area that the City intends to demolish, that the City give the CRA ten (10) business days to identify any structures determined by the CRA to have historic, cultural and/or architectural significance or whose destruction might adversely affect the Redevelopment Plan and that the City not proceed with the demolition of any such structures so designated without the prior approval of the CRA Board. gEOPW/CRA Section 3. ENCLOSURES: RECOMMENDATIO It is respectfully recommended that the CRA Board of Directors adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the Community Redevelopment Agency to request that the City of Miami not demolish structures within the redevelopment area having historic, cultural and/or architectural significance or whose destruction might adversely affect the redevelopment plan without prior approval of the CRA. BACKGROUND Several properties which have been approved as a part of the CRA redevelopment plan have been identified as unsafe structures and unbeknownst to the CRA have ended up on a list of structures to be demolished. The CRA seeks to be made aware prior to the action being taken.
