RE: Additional Land for the Lyric Theater Ancillary Building
Dear Mr.
The Black Archives is hereby officially requesting the City of Miami to
transfer the property located just north of the Lyric Theater (819 N.W. 2nd
Avenue) to the Black Archives Foundation.
The land requested will be the site of the proposed Lyric Theater
Ancillary Building. The current historic Lyric Theater is too small to
satisfy the needs of modern day performing arts groups. Therefore an
Ancillary Building is needed to provide sufficient space for the Lyric
Theater. Additional space needs include but are not limited to: Lobby
Space, Rest Rooms, Rehearsal Space, Dressing Rooms and Storage.
Attached is a revised site sketch indicating property requested. The
dimensions of the property requested for the lot north of the Lyric are 110'
x68'-6."
The Black Archives Foundation has secured funds for design and will be
selecting an architect within the next six months. As you are aware, site
location and configuration are crucial in the design process.
We appreciate your expeditious response and cooperation. If there are any
questions or if you need additional information, please contact me at (305)
636-2390 or Clyde Judson at (305) 858-7070.

The Black Archives has submitted the attached letter dated July 27, 1997,
requesting the donation of two CRA-owned vacant parcels located immediately
north of the historic Lyric Theater located approximately at Northwest 2Id Avenue
and Northwest 9t" Street, of the Southeast Overtown neighborhood.
The requested parcels, approximately 110 by 68.6 feet (7,546 s.f.), will be used
to construct an addition to the Lyric Theater, known as the Lyric Theater Ancillary
Building. The present size and shape of the Lyric Theater lacks some of the
basic facilities such as a lobby, dressing rooms, and rehearsal space,
consequently it is not considered suitable for contemporary performing arts
shows.
The proposed ancillary building will be designed to include a lobby, rest rooms,
rehearsal space, dressing rooms, storage, and other complimentary uses. The
Black Archives has assured that they have secured funds for the project design
and expect to have the architect in place within the next six months.
Therefore, it is respectfully recommended that the CRA Board authorize the
Executive Director to convey the above referenced CRA-owned parcels to the
Black Archives for the purpose of building an ancillary building to the Lyric
Theater.
