SUBJECT, API Allocation of $199,000 to Catholic
Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami,
Inc. for Services to the Elderly from
District 3, Commissioner Carollo — Four
Fifth Waiver
REFERENCES:
ENCLOSURES:
The City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty and focus on providing
support to its residents.
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Miami, Inc. (Organization) Services to the Elderly will provide
nutritious meals to elderly and peer socializing. This allocation will allow the entity to provide breakfast
and lunch to seniors, 60 years and older, five days a week in District 3. By providing two meals a day the
organization aims to aid low income seniors in decreasing food purchasing expenses which will allow them
to continue living in their homes.
As the Organization is familiar with the needs of the community and the district, it would be advantageous
for the City to expedite the allocation and waive procurement requirements at this time. Providing these
funds to the Organization will allow local seniors to obtain these services without interruption, with no
added time for the procurement process, which could take over 30-40 days.
RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive sealed bidding
methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of Ordinances,
as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of these written findings and the forwarding
o sa t e City Commission for ratification by a four -fifths vote is respectfully requested.
