LOCATED AT 1680 NORTHWEST 5 STREET, 1610 NORTHWEST 6 STREET, 1651
NORTHWEST 5 STREET, 1649 NORTHWEST 5 STREET, AND 1641 NORTHWEST 5
STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "RUBEN DARIO PARK"; AMENDING CHAPTER
38/ARTICLE I OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED,
TITLED "PARKS AND RECREATION/IN GENERAL", BY CREATING SECTION 38-29,
TITLED "NAMING OF RUBEN DARIO PARK"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE
NAMING OF THE PARK; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION NAMING THE ASSEMBLAGE

STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "RUBEN DARIO PARK"; AMENDING CHAPTER
38/ARTICLE I OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED,
TITLED "PARKS AND RECREATION/IN GENERAL", BY CREATING SECTION 38-29,
TITLED "NAMING OF RUBEN DARIO PARK"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE
NAMING OF THE PARK; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") owns an assemblage of land consisting of
approximately three (3) to five (5) acres located at 1680 Northwest 5 Street, 1610 Northwest 6
Street, 1651 Northwest 5 Street, 1649 Northwest 5 Street, and 1641 Northwest 5 Street, Miami
Florida to be developed into a park (collectively, "Park"); and
WHEREAS, the City may add additional parcels to the Park in the future; and
WHEREAS, Felix Ruben Garcia Sarmiento, widely known as Ruben Dario ("Dario"), was
a Nicaraguan poet, journalist, and diplomat who initiated the 19t" century Spanish-American
literary movement known as modernismo, which gained significant cultural momentum
throughout the literary worlds of Latin America and Europe; and
WHEREAS, Dario is considered by many to be one of the greatest poets who ever wrote
in Spanish, experimenting with many forms of verse and introducing more metrical innovations
than any other Spanish -language poet; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to honor Dario because he led one of the most
profound poetic revolutions in the history of Spanish literature; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that it is appropriate for the Park to be
named "Ruben Dario Park";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.

Section 2. Chapter 38/Article I of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is
further amended as follows:'
"CHAPTER 38
PARKS AND RECREATION
ARTICLE I. IN GENERAL
Sec. 38-29. Namina of Ruben Dario Park.
a. The assemblage of land consisting of approximately three (3) to five (5) acres located at
1680 Northwest 5 Street, 1610 Northwest 6 Street, 1651 Northwest 5 Street, 1649
Northwest 5 Street, and 1641 Northwest 5 Street, Miami, Florida shall be named the
"Ruben Dario Park."

Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take any and all actions necessary to
effectuate the naming of the Park.
Section 4. If any section, part of a section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this
Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately after final reading and
signature of the Mayor.2

2 This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten (10)
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective date stated
