ENCLOSURES:
The City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty and focus on providing
support to its residents.
Multi -Ethnic Youth Group Association, Inc. (organization) provides a wide range of social services to the
children, families, individuals, and senior citizens in the City of Miami, with an emphasis on those residing
in Liberty City, Allapattah, and Little Haiti. The Organization's program, Emphasizing Year-round Growth
and Achievement will further their efforts by enhancing year-round social services to children, families,
individuals and senior citizens. This comprehensive holistic program will provide participants with the
tools such as literacy, physical activity, social building skills, conflict resolution, leadership development,
nutritious food, and job readiness training, to propel the participants to move out of poverty.
As the Organization is familiar with the needs of the community, it would be advantageous for the City to
expedite the allocation and waive procurement requirements at this time. Providing these funds to the
Organization will allow local businesses to obtain these services immediately, with no added time for the
procurement process, which could take over 30-40 days.
RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive sealed bidding
methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of Ordinances,
as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of these written findings and the forwarding
of the s4 t he City Commission for ratification by a four -fifths vote is respectfully requested.
