A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RECOGNIZING THE MONTH
OF NOVEMBER AS NATIONAL ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH;
DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") A
SPONSOR OF THE ALZHEIMER'S WALK ON NOVEMBER 20, 2021 AND TO
ENCOURAGE CITY EMPLOYEE PARTICIPATION.
WHEREAS, November is National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, Alzheimer's is a devastating, degenerative neurological disease that not
only affects the individual but the individual's entire family and community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") is home to many multi -generational homes where
each member of the family is helping and supporting other family members; and
WHEREAS, there are many caregivers who have sole responsibility for family members;
and
WHEREAS, on November 20, 2021, the Walk to End Alzheimer's, organized by the
Alzheimer's Association, will take place; and
WHEREAS, events such as this help raise money and awareness to help those
individuals and their families as they navigate this most difficult of diseases; and
WHEREAS, the City and its employees have always been ready, willing, and able to
support local charitable events through sponsorship and participation; and
WHEREAS, recognizing National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month and
sponsoring and participating in the activities surrounding National Alzheimer's Disease
Awareness Month including the organized walk will benefit the City's residents and bring about
a greater awareness as well as help raise much needed charitable funds; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-33(f) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida,
as amended, the City Commission, by a majority vote, hereby deems this Resolution to be of an
emergency nature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission recognizes November as National Alzheimer's Disease
Awareness Month in the City.
Section 3. The City Commission directs the City Manager to have the City sponsor the
Walk to End Alzheimer's to be held on November 20, 2021 and to encourage all City employees
to voluntarily participate in the event to raise awareness about Alzheimer's Disease and its
effects on the individuals, their family, and the community.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
