A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENTS,
SETTING THE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") FOR
THE 2021 LEGISLATIVE SESSION; URGING GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS AND
THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT THE CITY'S
LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES; FURTHER URGING THE FLORIDA CONGRESSIONAL
DELEGATION TO SUPPORT THE CITY'S LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES DURING THE
117TH SESSIONS OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS; DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS NAMED
HEREIN.
WHEREAS, municipal self-determination and local self-government are constantly under
pressure from a variety of public and private interests; and
WHEREAS, Florida's municipalities are dependent on other governmental entities for
financial stability and support; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has identified its 2021 legislative priorities and
requests the support of the Florida Legislature regarding these priorities; and
WHEREAS, Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida's House and Senate leaders have an
opportunity to address the concerns of the City and other municipalities during the upcoming
2021 legislative session; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Congressional Delegation also has an opportunity to address
the concerns of the residents of the City during the 1171" Session of the United States
Congress;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Resolution.
Section 2. The City Commission hereby adopts Exhibits "A" and "B", attached and
incorporated, as the City's legislative priorities for the 2021 legislative session (collectively,
"Legislative Priorities").
Section 3. The City Commission urges Governor Ron DeSantis and the members of the
Florida Legislature to support the City's Legislative Priorities during the 2021 legislative session.
Section 4. The City Commission further urges the Florida Congressional Delegation to
support the City's Legislative Priorities during the 117t" Sessions of the United States Congress.
Section 5. The City Commission directs the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this
Resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls, Senate President
Wilton Simpson, the Members of the Miami -Dade County Legislative Delegation, and the Florida
Congressional Delegation.
Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
