There are several companies that manufacture systems for latent fingerprint enhancement and detection via fuming/powdering, however, F&F is the only manufacturer that can provide a state-of-the- art imaging system that enables digital comparison with other fingerprints and matching them with the Automated Fingerprint Identification System ("AFIS"), which has a database of fingerprints from law enforcement agencies nationwide. Their SUPERfume® system is designed to treat domestic rooms, offices, garages and vehicles without the need to dismantle or transport items back to the lab. According to F&F, it is the sole source manufacturer and distributor of the Workstation for law enforcement. There are actually two (2) components of the SUPERfume System for detecting fingerprints which is accomplished by fuming and powdering and the DCS® 5 imaging hardware/software and detection.. The imaging workstation enhances the fingerprints and photographs them using high resolution cameras for evidence records. This enables digital comparison with other fingerprints and matching them with the Automated Fingerprint Identification System ("AFIS"), which has a database of fingerprints from law enforcement agencies nationwide. This system was initially developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") in 1963 and became the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System ("IAFIS") in 1999. IAFIS is still operated by the FBI today.
