HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-20-0370City of Miami 1 i.RR .I Legislation alldl 1l+ Resolution: R-20-0370 File Number: 7998 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 11/19/2020 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT TITLED "BJA FY 20 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM" CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARD FROM THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE IN THE AMOUNT OF $234,888.00 TO PROVIDE THE MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT ("MPD") WITH FUNDING FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE INITIATIVES, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, TRAINING, EQUIPMENT, AND CONTRACTUAL SUPPORT WITH NO LOCAL MATCH REQUIRED; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DESIGNATE THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO EXECUTE ANY AND ALL OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT AWARD, ALL IN FORMS ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance ("Grantor") in the amount of $234,888.00 ("Grant"), with no required local match, to provide the Miami Police Department ("MPD") funding for criminal justice initiatives, technical assistance, training, equipment, and contractual support; and WHEREAS, the Grant will be used by MPD to support criminal justice initiatives that will expand and improve MPD's operations, as allowed by the grant agreement, to reduce crime, enhance officer safety, and provide better services to the City's residents, businesses, and visitors; and WHEREAS, the Grant is awarded for a period of four (4) years, beginning October 1, 2019 and ending September 30, 2023; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized' to execute the Grant Agreement, in substantially the attached form, with the Grantor. Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized' to designate the Chief of Police to execute any and all other necessary documents, all in forms acceptable to the City Attorney, for the acceptance of the Grant. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: 1 &ina Ciky Hktor iey 11/212020 ' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be imposed, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City of Miami Commission.
