HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal-City Clerk-Notice to the PublicSubmitted into the public record for item(s) SPA, on 11-18-2020, City Clerk CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA NOTICE OF UPCOMING VACANCY FOR DISTRICT 5 CITY COMMISSIONER The City of Miami is seeking to fill an upcoming vacancy in the District 5 City Commission seat following the resignation of Commissioner Keon Hardemon, which resignation is effective November 17, 2020. At the October 8, 2020 City Commission meeting, the City Commission directed the City Clerk to issue a Notice of Upcoming Vacancy for District 5 City Commissioner to provide an opportunity for all interested applicants to submit resumes and qualifying documents for consideration by the City Commission. The City Commission has scheduled a Special City Commission meeting on November 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., to either fill the vacancy for the District 5 City Commission seat or to call for a special election if a consensus is not reached for an appointment. In accordance with City Charter Section 4(c), applicants for "...city commission shall have resided within the district at least one year before qualifying and be electors in that district, and shall maintain residence in that district for the duration of their term of office." In this case, each applicant must be an elector in District 5, and have resided within District 5 for at least one year prior to the date of qualifying. If an appointment is made, the individual appointed to the District 5 City Commission seat will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term, which will end in November2021. In order to be considered for appointment, applicants must submit the following qualifying documents in person at the Office of the City Clerk located at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, Miami, Florida 33133: • A completed Affidavit of Appointment (must be notarized by City Clerk or Deputy Clerk); • Form 1 (2019) Statement of Financial Interests; and • State of Florida Candidate Oath. The following documents are optional and not required for appointment: • Current r6sume; and • City of Miami Loyalty Oath. R6sum6s must be received by 5:00 p.m. on November 13, 2020 and can be submitted using the following options: • Hand delivery to the Office of the City Clerk at Miami City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, Miami, FL 33133; or • Email to City-Campaigns@miamigov.com; or • Postal mail to Office of the City Clerk, Attention: Elections, P.O. Box 330708, Miami, Florida 33233-00708. The Office of the City Clerk is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is no deadline to qualify; however, all applicants may qualify with the Office of the City Clerk prior to the Special City Commission meeting that will be held on November 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. Applicants may also qualify on the day of the special meeting.
