Subject: Authorize - Install Ten (10) Neighborhood Signs in Shenandoah
Purpose of Item:
Authorization of the installation of ten (10) neighborhood signs located within the public
right of way in traffic circles and medians in the Shenandoah Neighborhood.
Background of Item:
The Shenandoah Neighborhood was established in 1919. The Miami -Shenandoah
Neighborhood Association ("MSNX) wishes to install neighborhood signs in certain
traffic circles and medians to improve the unique historic appeal of the Shenandoah
Neighborhood. The MSNA shall be responsible for the design, permitting, construction
and replacement of signs. The City shall only be responsible for maintenance.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENTS,
AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLATION OF MONUMENT SIGNS IDENTIFYING THE
SHENANDOAH NEIGHBORHOOD, AS SUBSTANTIALLY DEPICTED IN EXHIBIT "A"
ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, LOCATED WITHIN TRAFFIC CIRCLES AND
MEDIANS IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY AT CERTAIN ENUMERATED
APPROXIMATE LOCATIONS MORE SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBED IN EXHIBIT "B",
ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED; AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE
DONATION OF THE DESIGN, PERMITTING, CONSTRUCTION, AND
REPLACEMENT OF SAID SIGNS BY THE MIAMI-SHENANDOAH NEIGHBORHOOD
ASSOCIATION, INC., A FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT CORPORATION.
WHEREAS, the Shenandoah neighborhood was established in 1919 ("Neighborhood");
and
WHEREAS, both the City of Miami ("City") and the Miami -Shenandoah Neighborhood
Association, Inc., a Florida not for profit corporation ("MSNA"), wish to facilitate the installation of
monument signs identifying the Neighborhood in certain traffic circles and medians
("Neighborhood Signs"); and
WHEREAS, both the City and the MSNA believe the Neighborhood Signs as
substantially depicted in Exhibit "A", attached and incorporated, will improve the unique historic
appeal and beautify the Neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, authorization is requested from the City Commission for the MSNA to place
Neighborhood Signs identifying the Neighborhood located within traffic circles and medians in
the public right-of-way at the following approximate locations as substantially depicted in Exhibit
"B", attached and incorporated:
1. Southwest 16 Avenue and Southwest 11 Street;
2. Southwest 16 Avenue and Southwest 20 Street;
3. Southwest 19 Avenue and Southwest 21 Street;
4. Southwest 23 Avenue and Southwest 20 Street;
5. Southwest 23 Avenue and Southwest 11 Street;
6. Southwest 24 Avenue and Southwest 10 Street;
7. Southwest 24 Avenue and Southwest 18 Street;
8. Southwest 13 Avenue and Southwest 21 Terrace;
9. Southwest 10 Street Road and Southwest 9 Street;
10. Southwest 22 Avenue and Southwest 10 Street; and
WHEREAS, the MSNA shall be responsible for the design, permitting, and construction
of the Neighborhood Signs in accordance with the requirements for permittees performing work
in the public right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes for the City to be responsible for maintenance
only but not replacement of the Neighborhood Signs; and
WHEREAS, for the purpose of Section 54-17 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida,
as amended, the installation of the Neighborhood Signs by the MSNA is deemed to be
performed for the City so as to qualify for a permit fee waiver by the Director of the Department
of Resilience and Public Works; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission, to the extent the design, permitting, and construction
of the Neighborhood Signs is a donation valued at over $50,000.00, wishes to authorize the City
Manager to accept the same;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The installation of Neighborhood Signs as depicted in Exhibit "A", attached
and incorporated, by the MSNA located within traffic circles and medians in the public right-of-
way at the following approximate locations as substantially depicted in Exhibit "B", attached and
incorporated, is authorized:'
1. Southwest 16 Avenue and Southwest 11 Street;
2. Southwest 16 Avenue and Southwest 20 Street;
3. Southwest 19 Avenue and Southwest 21 Street;
4. Southwest 23 Avenue and Southwest 20 Street;
5. Southwest 23 Avenue and Southwest 11 Street;
6. Southwest 24 Avenue and Southwest 10 Street;
7. Southwest 24 Avenue and Southwest 18 Street;
8. Southwest 13 Avenue and Southwest 21 Terrace;
9. Southwest 10 Street Road and Southwest 9 Street; and
10. Southwest 22 Avenue and Southwest 10 Street.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized to accept the design, permitting, and
construction of the Neighborhood Signs by the MSNA as a donation to the extent the same is
valued at over $50,000.00.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

Pursuant to the resolution, this item became effective immediately upon adoption by the Commission.
The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be
imposed, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
