City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-20-0151 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 7432 Final Action Date:5/14/2020 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RECOGNIZING AND EXPRESSING APPRECIATION FOR THE DEDICATION AND CONTINUED SERVICE OF THE INTERNATIONAL LONGSHOREMEN'S ASSOCIATION ("ILA") DURING THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS ("COVID-19") PANDEMIC; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS NAMED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the Novel Coronavirus ("COVID-19") pandemic and the resulting economic disruptions have brought to light the importance of supply chain management to the country's national security; and WHEREAS, the men and women of the International Longshoremen's Association ("ILA") Florida Locals #1416, 1922, 1526, 1408, and 1359 have obtained a standing reputation of being a pillar of service throughout the community, working with several organizations for the betterment of youth, seniors, laborers, and the working people; and WHEREAS, the ILA continues its legacy of community service during this period of great uncertainty, placing the needs of the community before their own families; and WHEREAS, the ILA serves on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic by loading and unloading tons of cargo from ships at PortMiami and other Florida Ports, thereby making food and necessary supplies accessible to the community; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to recognize the vital service provided by the ILA to the community as one of the first steps in the local supply chain; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission hereby recognizes and expresses appreciation for the dedication and continued service of the ILA during the COVID-19 pandemic. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Presidents Luis Gonzalez, Johnny Dixon, Richard Ross, Ellis Canty, and George Spencer. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
