FOR JOBS AND FREEDOM WITH ALL EXPENSES FOR SUCH PUBLIC PURPOSE TO BE PROVIDED FROM FUNDS PREVIOUSLY BUDGETED IN THE DISTRICT 5 FISCAL YEAR 2019- 2020 BUDGET; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, August 28, 2020 will mark the Fifty -Seventh (57th) Year Anniversary of the March on Washington, D.C. for Jobs and Freedom, generally known as the "March on Washington", where among other historic presentations, the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his now famous "I Have a Dream" speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial before hundreds of thousands of participants; and WHEREAS, sending representation on behalf of the City of Miami ("City") to the historic anniversary of the March on Washington serves a clear public purpose that benefits the City; and WHEREAS, the City Commission believes it is in the best interests of the City for Chairman Keon Hardemon to represent the City at the historic anniversary of the March on Washington; and WHEREAS, travel expenses for such public purpose shall be provided from funds previously budgeted in the District 5 Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-33(f) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, the City Commission, by a majority vote, hereby deems this Resolution to be of an emergency nature; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission hereby officially authorizes' and designates Chairman Keon Hardemon as the City's representative at the August 28, 2020 March on Washington with all travel expenses for such public purpose to be provided from funds previously budgeted in the District 5 Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Budget. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be imposed, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. -,IV ov .
