2/ARTICLE XI/DIVISION 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, TITLED "ADMINISTRATION/BOARDS, COMMITTEES,
COMMISSIONS/STANDARDS FOR CREATION AND REVIEW OF BOARDS
GENERALLY", TO CREATE A NEW SECTION 2-894 TITLED "MEETINGS", TO
PROVIDE THAT ABSENT EXPRESS APPROVAL OF THE MIAMI CITY
COMMISSION, NO MEETINGS OF ANY CITY BOARDS, COMMISSIONS,
COMMITTEES, OR TASK FORCES SHALL OCCUR ON ANY HOLIDAY
RECOGNIZED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI OR BY THE FLORIDA SUPREME COURT;
CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AMENDING CHAPTER
2/ARTICLE XI/DIVISION 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS
AMENDED, TITLED "ADMINISTRATION/BOARDS, COMMITTEES,
COMMISSIONS/STANDARDS FOR CREATION AND REVIEW OF BOARDS
GENERALLY", TO CREATE A NEW SECTION 2-894 TITLED "MEETINGS", TO
PROVIDE THAT ABSENT EXPRESS APPROVAL OF THE MIAMI CITY
COMMISSION, NO MEETINGS OF ANY CITY BOARDS, COMMISSIONS,
COMMITTEES, OR TASK FORCES SHALL OCCUR ON ANY HOLIDAY
RECOGNIZED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI OR BY THE FLORIDA SUPREME COURT;
CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article XI, Division 2 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as
amended ("City Code"), sets forth the general requirements for the various boards and
committees of the City of Miami ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the scheduling of board and committee meetings without taking into
consideration observance of City and Florida court holidays lends to situations where some
members of boards and committees are unable to participate in meetings; and
WHEREAS, in order to ensure that the various boards and committees are as inclusive
as possible, it is necessary to establish a requirement that all City boards and committees
observe federal and Florida court holidays; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission finds it to be in the best interest of the residents and
stakeholders of the City to amend the City Code to provide for inclusiveness and maximum
participation of board and committee members;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are
adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Chapter 2/Article XI/Division 2 of the City Code is further amended in the
following particulars:
"CHAPTER 2
ADMINISTRATION
Words/and or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Underscored words and/or figures shall be
added. The remaining provisions are now in effect and remain unchanged. Asterisks indicate omitted
and unchanaed material.

ARTICLE XI. BOARDS, COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS
DIVISION 2. STANDARDS FOR CREATION AND REVIEW OF BOARDS GENERALLY
Section 2-894. Meetings.
Notwithstanding any other provisions to the contrary contained in this Code and
absent express approval of the City Commission, no meetings of any City
boards, commissions, committees, or task forces shall occur on any holiday
recognized by the City or by the Florida Supreme Court.

Section 3. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this
Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final reading and
adoption thereof.2

2 This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective date stated herein,
whichever is later.
